The museums and historical sites
Almost all the Municipalities in Alta Umbria date back to Roman or pre-Roman ages.
In some of them, rests of previous villages built by really ancient Umbrian populations were found: they have been dated at 1st millennium b.C.
The peak of these towns’ splendor was reached during the Middle Ages: that’s not by chance that some of the greatest examples of these ages’ architecture can be admired just here, in perfectly preserved medieval burghs, such as Gubbio or Montone.
As a consequence of this, Alta Umbria’s artistic, historical and cultural heritage is inestimable: walking along the cities’ streets, admiring their walls, fortresses, castles and churchs is sufficient to breath their history.
And, if it is not enough for you, visiting one or more of the many museums and archaeological sites will make your tour perfect!
